Mentor selection and assignment
Our framework for mentor selection and assignment consists of the following elements:
We adopt a consultative approach and collaborate with founders to finalize the areas where a mentor can add value.
We consult with mentors to understand their interest and motivation in being a mentor. For example, the mentors in our pool have a genuine interest in supporting startups and their founders as a way to give back to the vibrant ecosystem of entrepreneurs and to their alma maters.
In order to be effective, a mentor should also be able to devote appropriate time to the startup they’re associated with. In our experience, it works well to set expectations between mentors and founders at the beginning of the journey.
The startup journey can be quite arduous and lonely for founders. Many a time, founders look for a confidante to hear them out, besides guidance on solving specific business problems. We, along with our mentors, are sensitive towards the softer aspects of a founder-mentor relationship and it has played a significant role in our mentor model’s success.
